Lithogrphy on Clay

East High School had one week in-between TCAP testing and spring break this year.  We took this oppertunity to practice a unique method of layering mason inks and linseed oil onto a toner- printed image and transferring the image to clay. Many of the students were extremely successful with their transfers!

The Animated House Project

Project's Objective: Design plans and create a 3D sculpture that was inspired by a home.  The piece must be at least 6"x6"and incorporate 2 elements of design.  All methods of clay building (pinch, coil, slab, and pottery's wheel) are encouraged.

 

  

The Cajita Assignment- the lidded box

High school years help us understand our identity!

In this project, students will reflect and analyze their individual and cultural identity and communicate these attributes visually through their lidded vessel creation.  Each thrown or hand-built container will show the artist's passions, traditions, culture, and spirit.  Students will brainstorm their ideas in their sketchbooks, create their conceptual art, and critique their finished artwork with peers. Here are some of the students' creations!

After viewing artwork from the socially conscious Harlem Renaissance collage artist, Romare Bearden.  Ceramics I students created a collage covered sketchbook that reflected their identity as influenced by their environment.

What is Art?

Art is perception, it is an experience which evokes thoughts and emotions.  
Art gives our eyes an opportunity to discover and our minds inspiration to think.  
Art allows our words and thoughts to be translated into images, a dialogues between the artist and the viewer.  

Art is an expression of the imagination!

The importance of Sketchbooks

Art is the study of the whole individual~       
                       
                                                                                             It stimulates the right side of the brain

to improve left-brain functioning.

We write and sketch ideas to honor the fact that everything in life is a work in progress.  If we can revisit an idea time again we can improve on the initial concept of creation.  If we respond to higher order questions that initiate critical thinking and transferable problem solving, we become better people.  This will help us create inspiring art!
